Marseille fans caused ‘acts of damage’ at the home stadium of rivals Lyon. The French team also faces a fine for players returning late to start the second half.

It was an eventful occasion on the pitch as well as off it. Atletico took the lead midway through the first half when Antoine Griezmann capitalised on a mistake.

Soon after, Dimitri Payet was reduced to tears when he had to be substituted with injury, putting his World Cup at risk.

It was also a memorable day for Fernando Torres, who will be leaving his boyhood club at the end of the season.

Griezmann also looks set to depart this summer, and handed his side a welcome leaving present.
