Manchester United consider transfer bid for £30m-rated Atletico Madrid star Sime Vrsaljko ahead of summer
- Manchester United place Sime Vrsaljko on shortlist of potential new defenders
- The Croatian has impressed this season but Atletico Madrid are happy to cash in
- Atletico want £30m and that may prove too rich for Jose Mourinho this summer
The Croatia international, who was a former target for Arsenal and Manchester City, has impressed this season with his performances but Atletico would sell to help strengthen in other positions.
Atletico would want £30million for the 26-year-old despite buying him for just £14.5m in 2016. That could deter United as they look to barter a better price and weigh up all options.

Vrsaljko, who was sent off after ten minutes against Arsenal in the Europa League, has made 30 appearances for Atletico this season and, while he is not the most physical of defenders, can cover at left-back and has provided a number of attacking opportunities from his pinpoint crossing.
Jose Mourinho wants competition at right-back as Antonia Valencia has to manage wear and tear on his knees while the club have offers from Italy for Matteo Darmian.
Mourinho also wants a left-back but Juventus’s Alex Sandro is a target for Paris St Germain.

The Brazilian also had interest from Manchester City, who have since targeted Jorginho at Napoli, but is viewed as an ideal candidate to replace Michael Carrick.
‘I made it clear to the club that I was very happy here, but I want to make a bigger leap in my career,’ Fred told SporTV. ‘There are other clubs interested in England and France. I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.
‘I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that it’s my moment.
‘The club are reluctant to release me. I have a contract until 2021. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.’ Marouane Fellaini is still awaiting United’s latest contract proposal.
